Lincoln City, OR
Creative Brief
Thank you to Ed Dreistadt, Scott Humpert, and Eric Johnson from the Explore Lincoln City team for such an inspiring visit and for sharing so many authentic experiences unique to your destination. Here are some of the highlights from this trip.
When Japanese fishing crews still used blown glass spheres to buoy their nets, these glass floats would sometimes escape and sail off across the Pacific Ocean, ending up on Oregon's shores. To keep the spirit of beach combing and finding these beautiful glass floats alive, Explore Lincoln City launched Finders Keepers. From mid-October through Memorial Day, visitors can hunt for glass floats and can keep any floats that they discover! We were lucky to participate in a glass float hunt while visiting.
If you go . . .
Lincoln City Glass Center: Expert glass blowers will help you design and create your own floats. This hands-on experience is a must.
Surftides: Stop by for the fresh food and stay for the ocean view.
Clam Digging: This is a great option for families looking for an interactive and educational activity. If you are staying in a property with a kitchen, you can even take your clams home with you and make fresh chowder!
Whale watching: Head over to nearby Depoe Bay for a whale watching tour. There are a few gray whales that live in the area, making it very likely that you will see one surface.
Cascade Head Hike: Start from the bottom of the trail for a more strenuous climb, or begin at the upper trailhead for a quicker and more accessible hike. Cascade Head offers stellar views of the coastline and ocean.
P.S. Our Finders Keepers glass floats traveled all the way from Lincoln City, OR to our offices in Philly. They have since been spotted floating around town.
